She wanted to press her body against his. Waltz with the devil, indeed. Lord save her, she wanted to lie with him.
“You don’t have to tell me the details, but if he took your virtue against your will, you have but to give me his name now, tonight, and your portion of our arrangement will be concluded, and I shall immediately see to mine.”
“I’m a man with many enemies, Catherine.” He tucked her up against his side, pressed his lips to the top of her head. “But never before have I had a lovely guardian angel.”
Then Catherine smiled beautifully. “Dr. Graves, I didn’t know you were here. It’s so lovely to see you again.” She extended her hand, and he took it gently, placing a kiss on her fingertips. Luke didn’t understand his reaction. His body stiffened and he wanted to smash his fist into Bill’s face, wanted to pull Catherine away from the man who was now turning her bandaged hand over and looking at her covered palm.
What the bloody hell was she doing? She was charming them. Charming them all. As though they were equals, as though they had something in common. All three of his mates were looking at her like besotted fools.
With Catherine, he saw a kaleidoscope of their contorted naked bodies.
Catherine, my beloved Catherine, shall always be the center of my heart, the one who, in the final hour, would not let the devil have me.
