When we address the idea of keeping out intruders, we are not saying that marriage is a self-contained unit in which each spouse meets every emotional need of the other. Marriage was not designed to be the source of all life for us. This would be idolatry. God and his resources are our life source: “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17).
