The word is used both for serving as someone’s servant and also for serving God, as in a prayer service. Even the English language retains that usage today. That is why both in Judaism and in Christianity, idiomatic usage has us attending “services” at synagogue or church. Nobody necessarily has to be a Christian, or for that matter a Jew, to become an expert at true service.
