Learn to follow if you want to learn to lead.
Have the courage to persuasively present your vision.
Induct your employees into the culture of your organization.
Adapt the power of prayer to your business goals.
Early each day, find a quiet opportunity to say out loud an affirmation of faith having to do with some business challenge. It need not be lengthy, but it should be stated explicitly, and it should reflect your conviction in what you intend to achieve. Identify as precisely as possible the exact areas in which you intend improving. Then, write down your specific goals. Say your affirmation loudly enough for your own ears to hear,
Make sure you balance short and long term business goals.
Make sure not only that you have a long term plan but also that those whom you lead are well aware of your long term views.
Carry yourself like a leader.
One of the most important distinctions you need to learn to make is between those things in your life that should be constant and unchangeable and the kind of change you should welcome.
the freedom to grasp change eagerly and to squeeze it until it yields its seeds of new opportunity depends entirely on your not being swept away down the river of change yourself. The only way to prevent change from utterly dominating your life until you are driven to distraction by the absence of any fixed framework of reference is to make sure that your life does possess a fixed and unchangeable framework of reference.
The three lines, in turn, represent the three fundamental entities of existence: God, human beings, and the tangible, material world.
one triangle represents a God Human Beings World matrix that never changes, whereas the other triangle depicts another God Human Beings World that must always be open to change.
You can doom yourselves in two contrasting ways: (1) You can blind yourself to the things that never change, and (2) you can blind yourself to those things that must change.
The choice is either to accept innovation along with the pain of some or to reject it and assure poverty and pain for almost everyone all the time. But the reality is that there is no way to hold back this progress.
In business, constant innovation along with creative destruction is often the “least bad” of the choices.
the constant march forward to ever newer ways of doing things was not just a lamentable side effect of commerce, but was an essential element of wealth creation. The task of creating wealth absolutely depends on change.
Success does require keeping an eye on the world at large, regardless of your own particular field of endeavor.
There is a much greater chance of positive cooperation if you can present the information in a gradual manner rather than as a terse notice.
The best response is not to respond. Instead, you could just say something like this: “Well, you have obviously had a few days (or hours, if appropriate) to think about how you were going to tell me this. I must now take the same period to consider my response to what you have just told me.”
a worldview that recognizes the benefits of change, as does Judaism, is of great value. While clinging relentlessly to those areas where change mustn’t be accepted, Jews have tended to view the concept of change in a fundamentally healthful way.
You can prosper by integrating into your life the things that must never change along with an openness to the things that can and should change.
Change produces opportunity for business professionals.
The lesson there is to always prepare for change. Expect the unexpected, plan on it, and profit from it.
business success depends on change and on readiness to embrace change. However, and this is a great big, gigantic “however,” one can only feel truly free to embrace change and one will only succeed in dealing with change if one is solidly anchored to a set of almost Cartesian like coordinates that never change.
There are only three job skills necessary to find and keep an entry level job. First, show up regularly and on time. Second, obey instructions. Third, speak and act respectfully. These are character attributes rather than real work skills,
view life through a video rather than through a dishonest sequence of snapshots. Their familiarity with the Bible’s approach to recounting events accustomed them to seeing the moving timeline of history and to the ever repeating Biblical laws of cause and effect.
Another key to how Jews view the role of past and future and how they impact their experience of the present is provided by the total absence of any present verb to be in Hebrew.
the present is no more than an experiential mechanism by means of which humans can convert the future into the past.
the present is not so much a time as it is an action.
“Everything is constantly in motion, and change is perpetual.”
YOUR PATH TO PROSPERITY
Understand that the Star of David represents a strong life view that helps deal with change.
Accept innovation and embrace change.
Try to absorb and make changes gradually.
Do your best to avoid two or more simultaneous stress inducing changes in your life.
Create a file in your computer or on a dedicated page in your organizer on which you make, modify, and maintain a list of those things that never change for you.
Keep in mind your core values—as an individual and in your business.
understand two facts: First—some coming events can cause real change that will impact your business yet leave other kinds of businesses immune, whereas other future events will not affect your activities but might well disrupt those of someone else. Second, you should never procrastinate in the face of the former, and you should refuse to be stampeded by the latter.
Ego is one enemy of effective futurism. Learn to overcome it, and you will be well on the way to seeing the future far more clearly.
In general, one can always count on the three epochs of materialism, spiritual quest, and cultural decline to follow one another.
you should be open to the possibility of cycles and trends; but you should never allow yourself to become blinded by them.
Part of developing an effective understanding of how the world really works includes accustoming yourself to analyzing cause and effect.
you ought to try to see events as links in a chain.
information is already available; Jewish culture calls this “the laid egg.” How and when that egg will hatch and what sort of creature will crawl out of it is up to you to determine.
Whatever time you determine to set aside for stoking up your creativity and enhancing your future vision should be governed by three rules:
It is far more important that it be a regular time than that it be a lengthy period of time.
You should be doing nothing else at the same time.
You should alternate between keeping your mind quite clear and focusing your thoughts on the specific agenda you had earlier prepared. This will help prevent undisciplined mental meandering.
the very word amuse conveys a clue.15 The word muse means “to think or ponder.” The “a” in front of a word implies the opposite of the root word just as it does in words like atheist—the opposite of a theist. In other words, amusement is used to prevent thought or deep pondering.
reading about ideas or things grants you the most freedom to absorb or to reject.
