Our obsession with looks is not surprising, I suppose, when you consider what a visual species we are and that looks are staggeringly important in our interactions with people. Attractive people are more likely to be hired, are more likely to get raises, are more likely to get away with shoplifting, and are judged to be more intelligent than those who are less attractive.
