Start by deciding what signal you’re going to use to ask your dog to pause at the doorway. We use “Wait” in our training classes, but I use “Mind” myself (short for “Mind your manners”) because “Wait” sounds too much like one of my herding signals. Just pick a word that doesn’t sound like the other signals that you use and be consistent with it.
