A wolflike hunger flickers in his gaze.
but all I can hear is my uterus screaming OH MY GOD at the top of its lungs.
“Because my wife asked me to. And I’ll give her anything she wants.”
“Do you want to have sex with me?” I groan and slump over on the desk, pressing my forehead to the wood. “That’s not an answer.” “No, that was the sum of my feelings about the question.”
I grimace at the poster of Jamie Fraser. He smolders back at me, all Scottish and heroic. He’d never been such a dick.
“Could you lower the stapler, darling? You look a little unhinged.”
“I said ‘sleeping in my bed,’ and you melted.” “I’m not butter. I don’t melt.”
His hot gaze flashes up to mine. “You scared of me, little lamb?”
“I’m never letting you go, wife. Get used to it.”
“I don’t even know where to start. Every time I have a conversation with that man, he turns my brain into mashed potatoes.”
“I love it when you glare at me like that. Small evil things are my favorite.” “Get a Chihuahua. What are you going to tell your police chief buddy when I suffocate to death?”
It’s huge, hot, and hard. All the good words start with the letter H.
When I say, “Good boy,” his eyes drift closed. His voice so faint, it’s almost inaudible, he says, “Wife. Please.”
“It’s your father.” He glances in my direction. “He wants to meet your new wife.” Closing his eyes, Callum mutters, “Fuck.” “Should I pull the fire alarm to provide a distraction?”
“You wear my ring. You sleep in my bed. You made a promise in front of witnesses to have and to hold me for the rest of your life. You chose me, Emery. And because you chose me, you own me, now and forever, come what may.”
“He said he saw his whole future the first time he looked into your eyes.”
“I’m not insane. I’m perfectly rational. My ethics are just a little more bendy than other people’s.”
Callum’s lips brush my cheek, raising all the hair on my arms. He whispers into my ear, “Ask me why I’m so obsessed with you.”
No, I’m not a knight in shining armor. I’m the bad guy. I’m the dragon the prince tries to slay in fairy tales.
You ripped my heart out of my chest the first time we met, and you’ve been carrying it around with you ever since, bloody and beating in your hands.
“I know I’m damaged. But all my broken pieces belong to you.”
