“There’s no rest for the wicked.” “And even less for the wealthy.”
Because if there’s one lesson we learned from Seth Kane, it’s that love may come and go, but hate lasts forever.
“Oh, you’re getting red. Mommy does that with Daddy.” Lily’s eyes light up.
“Do you mind putting away your weapon before I start speaking?” His eyes narrow at the stapler. “Is the big bad Mr. Kane afraid of a little stapler?” I click it a few times in his direction. The staples fly in the air before landing a few inches from my ballet flats. “I wouldn’t trust you with bubble wrap, let alone a stapler.” “You’re right. That choking hazard warning should be taken more seriously.”
He’s the Devil, Zahra. Well, that explains why Eve fell for his tricks. If the Devil looked half as good as Rowan, I’d eat the damn apple too. Screw the consequences.
“Take a breath. I’m not in the mood to call an ambulance when you pass out and crack your head open.” “How dare I consider for a second that you would catch me before that happens.” “That requires caring and I’m fresh out of fucks to give.”
Does she like it? Of course she likes it, you self-conscious fuck. Who wouldn’t?
Yet you kissed your employee because the Florida heat killed all your working brain cells.
Me: Because life isn’t always rainbows and sunshine. Zahra: Of course not. But how can we appreciate the sun every morning if we don’t live through the dark?
The shorter brunette elbows Zahra in the ribs. “Be nice. He’s cute.” Her almond-shaped brown eyes brighten and bring out the softness in her face. She officially becomes my new favorite person.
“She looks at you like she wants to have your babies.”
“I thought you didn’t care?” “Hmm. Maybe I found some fucks to give after all.”
“Because you either bend to the will of monsters or you easily become the prey.”
If this is what it feels like to be around someone who’s pure sunshine, I’ll willingly accept the burn. Every. Damn. Time.
“Galahad,”
“If I had a heart to give, it would be all yours. Free of cost.”
“Ask me tomorrow when my lungs start working again.”
“You’ll learn that the best rewards come with the biggest consequences. Because nothing that great comes without making any sacrifices.”
“Damn. Rowan might not speak much but when he does—” Cal does a chef’s kiss. “Poetry.”
Zahra’s it for me. I know it with everything in me, and my intuition has never been wrong before. There’s nothing in the world I’ll find more beautiful than her. Not the sun. Not the moon. Not even the entire galaxy compares to the light she radiates wherever she goes.
