Ryan Hardy, Brandon Mathers, Zak Atwood and Finn Knowles were the devil incarnate as far as my father was concerned.
There was a reason me and my friends were never invited to these things. We were the town exiles. The good girls. Well tonight, good girls were going bad.
The guy left standing turned around and glowered at the crowds with a smirk straight from hell and my stomach rolled. Brandon Mathers. I should’ve known.
“Big mistake, Winters. You’re on our turf now. Daddy can’t help you here and you’re pretty fucking stupid to jump into the lions’ den tonight. We’re not pussy cats. We fight dirty.”
Nobody held my attention like Emily Winters, and that’s what made her dangerous.
Who was I kidding? We all lost our shit over Ryan Hardy whenever he was around. But I wasn’t dumb enough to fall for his bad boy charm.
Emily Winters was my nemesis. A perfect opponent in this little battle of wits we’d started playing. She was my muse.
“Either they’ll break your heart, or you’ll break both of theirs. If you want my opinion… Choose one and stick to it. You can’t keep them both dangling. That shit never works out. Trust me. I’d know. You’ll lose them both.”
“You’re becoming one of us now, Ems. We’ll have to find a job for you. Make it official.”
Her fire only fanned my flames. Her demons fired up my own.
And I realised in that moment, Emily fucking Winters was all I’d ever want. She was it for me.
“If he thinks for one minute I’m going to stay away from you, after that kiss, he’s got another thing coming.” He bent down
He leaned his head forward and brushed his lips against mine so gently I froze, scared to move in case I missed something.
I’d thought the room was bathed in colour, but he just doused my whole soul in a vibrance that no colour could match. He was the spark that set my heart, soul, body and mind on fire.
“You aren’t going to scare me away. You never have, and you never will. I want you, Ryan Hardy, rough edges and all. I. Want. You.”
He threw his head back and laughed, and I swear my whole body went into meltdown. I’d always loved it when he laughed like that, but here in this confined space, standing right in front of me, I couldn’t contain myself. I wanted to jump up and climb him, like a monkey climbing up a tree.
“Because all good things come to those who wait. Or is it save the best till last?” “First, last, I don’t care. You, Em are everything.”
