Florie woke up surrounded by music. A stringed instrument played a mournful tune as a man sang. He had a deep, beautiful voice that filled the air and seemed to reach inside her, making her chest ache and her eyes sting with unshed tears. She didn’t recognize the words,
“Perhaps this divorce is a good thing. A foolish male like that does not deserve a female such as you.”
“You are a very stubborn woman, aren’t you, Florie?” “Yes, I am. I’ve found that it’s the only way to get what I want.”
“It’s not pity. I think you’re the bravest, kindest, smartest, sexiest person I’ve ever met.”
am now acquainted enough with human females to understand that that word does not actually signify agreement.”
“You are safe with me, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to react. I might be angry or sad or upset. But those feelings are for you, not because of you. I love you, and that’s not going to change.”
