He wished he had someone to talk to, someone who knew his situation, who understood people, who would tell him he was being a fool. Unfortunately, only one person fit that bill.
Through this whole book, he doesn't talk to Gareth or Joss until the epilogue. He could have learned so much about Luke simply by visiting Sir Gareth's estate.
“You’ve already given me most of it,” Luke said. “Everything except Gareth, and he can look after himself. Truly, Rufus, the money stopped mattering a long time ago. I hate to sound like a bad Gothic romance, but I came to Stone Manor searching for treasure, and found—” “You sound exactly like a bad Gothic romance.”
“Well, in the long term,” Luke said. “He might take a day off, I suppose, here and there. If he had someone to take a day off with, and perhaps a bed worth taking it on.” “Is my bed worth taking it on?” “Considering how often I’ve taken it on your bed,” Luke began.
