“Technically, you are an intruder, but a very beautiful one. If you wanted to join me in bed, you only had to say so. No need to go to all this trouble.”
Remember, murdering a client is considered unprofessional.
“Relax, Luna.” Xavier laughed as we wound through the near-empty streets at a breakneck pace. “You’re officially off the clock for the next week. Enjoy it.”
“It’ll be tough, but we will pull that stick out of your ass.”
Come on, Luna. Give me something.
There’d been a moment, just one, when I looked at Xavier and my heart skipped a beat. Who did you really go see?
“But I’m good at doing nothing, so I stick to it. It’s better than fucking things up.”
What was it like to live life so carefree every day? To not worry about being perceived by others or being good enough, successful enough, impactful enough to justify my existence?
I stayed there until the lump in my throat dissolved, and as droplets of water cascaded down my face, I pretended they were tears.
“What the hell have you been doing with your bedroom lamp?”
Xavier and I had been alone many times before, but this was the first time I recognized the danger in him. Beneath the layers of indolent self-possession, there was a man who could set my world aflame if he wanted.
Because the thought of anyone else touching you fucking kills me.
“We are not friends. We are not dating. You are simply a client, and you are the one who forced me to come here. You have no right to act like my boyfriend or handler.” “I’m trying to help!” “I don’t need your help!”
“Have you ever wished someone would die?” I asked softly. “I don’t mean figuratively or in a moment of anger. I mean, have you ever lain awake at night, dreaming of how life would be better if a specific person didn’t exist?”
“In case you scream again. You don’t want people hearing, remember?” Xavier’s dark velvet reply promised all sorts of wicked intent. “And I need my hands for something else.”
paused, turning over her words. “Wait.” I fixed Xavier with a disbelieving stare. “When you said you booked the hotel, you booked the whole hotel?” “I like supporting family businesses.” His dimples twinkled with mischief. “I also like privacy.”
Sometimes, the rom-coms got it right.
