“You think you own me?” I force out, teetering on the edge. “No,” he nips at my ear, “you own me. And I protect my fucking Queen.”
“Do you love me yet?” the question spills from my lips. Her breathing stalls, faltering in her throat as I continue to caress her face. “Because I don’t know how this all works… but I really want to say it to you.”
“I promise to never run too far. I promise I’ll always stop somewhere, waiting for you to catch up.”
“You have a million and one things you need to worry about right now. Me bailing out will never be one of them. I will ride with you ‘til the fucking wheels fall off.”
“I hope he tells me where he buries you,” I glance back at him, “so I can fuck him on your grave.”
Over the years, I’ve made some upgrades to the house. Trust me, drains in your torture rooms are a fucking must. Don’t skimp on them.
‘Til the fucking wheels fall off. If there was ever anything I believed in life, it was when my girl made me that promise. The only thing I never imagined was it would be me sabotaging the axle. Goodbye, my love.
Truth is, I may have chased her out of my life four years ago, but I stuffed my heart in her back pocket on her way out the door. She’s the only one it ever beat for, so there was no sense in me keeping it. Trouble is… she doesn’t even know she took it with her.
“Go ahead and run, Jones,” he calls out. “We both know I’ll catch you.” I glance back over my shoulder, my eyes locking on his. “That only worked when I was willing to wait for you.”
“I look at you and I would rather look at you than all the portraits in the world.”
His faults don’t dictate my actions as a man.
“I love you, J. You’re the love of my life. The light to my dark. The other half of my soul. I will follow you ‘til the end of our existence and if reincarnation’s a thing, I’ll find you in the next life and do it all over again. You run, I chase, baby. Forever.”
“Just stop every so often… wait for me.”
J showed me what love was. My son showed me the infinite extent it could reach.
