This man could not see the truth. He and the other rebel leaders, such as Simon bar Giora, wanted power just as much as they hated Romans. John felt the man’s naked desire, the urge to kill and destroy anyone or anything that stood in his way. This man did not do what he did to serve God, but the grossest passion of the world: the pursuit of power.
