“Did she ever come around to accepting it?” He stared at me with hopeful eyes. He was putting himself in my shoes. My mother had never come around. Sure, I’d been invited back for family dinner, but things had never been the same between us. Some words, once spoken out loud, couldn’t be taken back. But I couldn’t bear to break Dylan’s heart.
