Veteran nurses tend to “eat their young,” often bullying the less experienced nurses. I learned about this phenomenon early on in nursing school.

For as much as working with other nurses showed me how I wanted to be with patients, sometimes it also showed me how I didn’t want to be.

I reminded myself to live for today, not the fears of tomorrow—a promise I had made to myself when I started working in hospice.
