compatibility is only a small factor for whether two people will go on to have a relationship. It’s ridiculous, I know. It should be as simple as: we’re both available and we really like each other, so let’s give this a go. But it’s not. It’s far more complicated than that.

The only thing you can do is be upfront fairly early on about the fact you are looking for a relationship. Don’t worry that this is too much to load on someone – it’s not. It is a responsible way to date.

I think we all can get too caught up in shared interests as a defining factor for whether a relationship will work. Passions and hobbies can give you a shared language and schedule, but I’m not sure if those things form a rock-solid foundation for love.
