In stark contrast, I notice a bright, expansive quality whenever women describe the joys and benefits of getting older. Their description always goes something like this: “When you get to a certain age, you’ve learned to no longer care. You finally accept that you can’t please everyone, so you try to please yourself. You trust yourself to know what you need. You do your best to get to the most conscientious place possible, and from that place, you say and do what you want. Let the chips fall where they may.” Men never describe getting older in this way.
