Perilous Times

“As far as I see it, people could do with a bit of suffering. Remind them to respect the earth they live on. Remind them to fear it!”

“If you ask me, it’s better to act without thinking than to think without acting. Easy to sit around worrying about this and that. Much better to get out there into the world and make some difference.”

He knows the courage of women, from the last war, and from wars before that.

“Well, if there’s anything I’ve learned in all my time coming back, it’s that ordinary people can do amazing things if they put their mind to it. They can do miracles, if they choose to believe in themselves. And that’s as good as magic.

“It might not be the smart thing to do,” she says, “but it’s the right thing to do, so we’re doing it.”

Nobody has to do this alone, fight all of the evils in the world alone, save the world alone. The weight that would be crushing becomes bearable when it’s spread over ten or twenty shoulders. When it’s spread over a hundred shoulders it becomes featherlight. It becomes easy to overturn.
