Just as with the British politicians, Ford seemed excruciatingly incompetent when it came to meeting this challenge. His campaign to Whip Inflation Now—complete with WIN buttons—seemed both clueless and pointless. The premise may have been a sound one: a rejection of Nixon’s wage and price controls in favor of private citizens doing their part to stem inflation.
