“Um, romance. Chick lit. Not the kinda stuff you’d be interested in—” “Smut then,” I say. “Erotica. Got it.”

“My favorite part was spending the whole day with you. We won’t see each other again, but you made me wonder what it might be like to travel with someone. To share the world and know they’d always be there. This is the life I’d lead if I could be someone else. I’d spend all my days with someone like you.”

“Woman, if you hadn’t come back to me, I would have hunted you down,” he whispers darkly.

If she’s hiding a husband or kids while she’s kissing me and giving me hell for lying to her months ago, I’m going to go nuclear. But if her trouble is anything else, I’ll fix it, whether she damn well likes it or not.
