I wasn’t into guys who couldn’t take a hint. So why did the idea of telling Ronan no seem like a lot of fun?
“You come on very strong,” I said. “Yes. When I see something I want.” The way his eyes locked with mine made my breath catch in my throat. “I make no apologies for coming on strong. That’s just who I am, Larke.”
Being this torn up by a woman was pathetic. Was this how ugly men felt?
“Don’t forget.” “Forget what?” My voice was breathy. “That you don’t despise me.”
Ronan looked me up and down, taking his time as his gaze raked over my body, head to toe. It was obvious. Lazy. Bold. When he finally met my eyes, he just grinned, knowing exactly what he’d been doing. “No apologies.”
“I’m not asking anymore. If I want a date”—I swung my hand out to the food on the table— “I’ll take it from now on.”
“Mama,” Wren said, an order to Ronan to follow. “Okay, firefly. To the kitchen we go.” Firefly. My heart tumbled.
“I’m going to kiss you again.” Tonight. Tomorrow. Like he’d kiss me any damn time he pleased. A shiver rolled down my spine. “Why did you kiss me earlier?” “Because I had to.”
