For now Ted was her metric for men, and she had, therefore, an instinctive knowledge of the truth of her belief, a gut feeling. She had faith that this was about as good as it got: not perfect, but she was sure that, by the power of her love, she could change him for the better.
The fact that the windows were all intact was interesting; Cabal had learned a lot about human nature over the past few weeks and knew full well that where there were boys and unattended glass, there was also likely to be some property damage in the near future.
“Have you read any of the Sherlock Holmes stories?” answered Cabal. “No. I’ve heard of them, though. Who hasn’t?” “That’s a shame. When I was young and still read fiction, I read the whole canon. I liked the application of the scientific method to resolving the chaos that crime generates.”
He spread his hands and smiled so sweetly Cabal was caught by opposing urges to strike him and adopt him.
