I’m fascinated by Stevenson’s comparison between Dr Jekyll’s eventual determination to resist becoming Mr Hyde again, and an alcoholic who chooses sobriety but is constantly battling temptation. We can all choose the highest goals, but consistently choosing good over and over every day for years is extremely difficult.
