If you deceive and lie with one person against another you will eventually do it again. If some person is able to do it to you once another person will do it again.

Nobody climbs on skis now and almost everybody breaks their legs but maybe it is easier in the end to break your legs than to break your heart although they say that everything breaks now and that sometimes, afterwards, many are stronger at the broken places.

There are many more explainers now than there are good writers.

and this book contains material from the remises of my memory and of my heart. Even if the one has been tampered with and the other does not exist.

All remembrance of things past is fiction and this fiction has been cut ruthlessly and people cut away just as most of the voyages are gone along with people that we cared for deeply.

Two things are important. Nothing lasted with us no matter how well intended and they ski much better now than they did in our time.

There is never any ending to Paris and the memory of each person who has lived in it differs from that of any other. We always returned to it no matter who we were nor how it was changed nor with what difficulties nor what ease it could be reached. It was always worth it and we received a return for whatever we brought to it.
