In 1984, it was Reagan once again who delivered the perfectly timed sound-bite jab against opponent Walter Mondale, “I will not make age an issue in this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience,” that helped shore up an otherwise lackluster debate performance.
