S&P 500 futures are notorious for false breakouts. Day after day this market exceeds its previous day's high or falls below its previous day's low by a few ticks (a tick is the minimum price change permitted by the exchange where an instrument is traded). This is one of the reasons the S&P is a difficult market to trade, but it attracts beginners like flies. The floor has a field day slapping them.
