“Cookies!” “Cookies?” Ted echoed, looking around. There were no cookies in sight, of course. “This is a cookies-and-cocoa moment. A Christmassy thing. That’s what they do in movies after they set up the tree. And I’ve done it twice.”
Like Jesus. The closer you get to Him, the better you know Him. Then you realize how deep His love for you is.”
“You know, Libby, everything doesn’t have to be done in the most efficient way possible. We all need to interact with other people. Connect.

“It’s snowing,” Ted said softly. I turned my face to the sky and felt snowflakes land gently on my eyelashes. I closed my eyes and prayed. For guidance. For funds. For favor with the town.
“If this is God’s will for you, it’ll happen.” Ted sounded so sure, but I knew the unspoken counterpart was true too. “And that means you can pour your heart and soul into something, and it might not happen.”
Baking was suddenly a lot more fun with someone to share it.
We won’t be able to spend Christmas together this year, but don’t be sad. The next time I see you, you’ll be old enough to marry me, and we’ll never have to part again. Always and forever yours, Jake
I couldn’t let Roberts get away with it. I ran over to the table, grabbed several plates of cake, and in quick succession threw them in Roberts’s face as he reached for his prize. Startled, Roberts instinctively put up his hands to fend off the china and dropped the gun.
I closed my eyes and breathed a prayer of thanks for the way things had worked out and for my new sense of belonging.
“Sometimes you pour your heart and soul into something, and it doesn’t happen.” He paused. “And sometimes it does!” He grinned.
