It’s a scariness I love because me in danger has always been catnip for BJ. He can’t help it. It happens kind of subconsciously, I think, like a reflex. As soon as I’m in there, he’s hovering behind me. I glance back at him; our eyes catch in the dark. He says nothing, does nothing. Just stands there with me. I walk in deeper, wanting to test him, see how far I can go with him. He follows me in, sticks closer. Close enough that I can feel the warmth of him behind me. I move around and he follows me like a shadow.
