The day after Luthuli returned from Oslo, MK dramatically announced its emergence. On the orders of the MK High Command, in the early morning hours of December 16—the day white South Africans used to celebrate as Dingane’s Day—homemade bombs were exploded at electric power stations and government offices in Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, and Durban.
