The phrase “I will bless” is the Hebrew verb naḇaṭ, which is defined as “to look, to watch, to regard. It has the sense of looking somewhat intensely in a focused way at something.” God, in essence, is saying, “This is the person whom I will pay close attention to.” Three virtues are listed: humility, a contrite heart, and those who “tremble at my word,” which will be our focus in this section.
