“That doesn’t mean the elves didn’t fear them when they were alive.” Noctus flicked his eyes to the Paragon as he stood up. “In fact, it should be a warning.” “A warning for what?” the Paragon asked. Noctus was silent as he stepped around Aristide’s chair, tapping the vampire’s shoulder in some kind of signal. “The shadows are gone because the elves killed them in their fear of them,” Aristide said, “Much the same way the rest of supernaturals killed the elves because they feared them.” “History is doomed to repeat itself,” Noctus agreed. The Paragon’s expression turned serious. “The war was waged not out of sheer fear, but because the elves had lofty goals that would have doomed us all. You of all people should know that.” “I do know that,” Noctus said. We were almost to the door, now. “It’s why I did what I did. But that doesn’t mean the same terror won’t be repeated, until we all learn our lesson.”
