“Ooooh,” Kenyon said, reading the card as Julian finished scanning it. “Tesoro. I like that one. Yep. Tesoro. It fits you.” Julian glared. “Don’t call me that.” “Why not?” Kenyon still seemed pleased with himself. Even more so now that he’d found Julian a nickname. “I told you, no cutesy nicknames.” He probably hadn’t but then he hadn’t thought he needed to.
“It’s fun, though, isn’t it, tesoro?” Kenyon asked, and there was that hopeful look in his eye again. Like he was actually enjoying this, and he wanted Julian to, as well.
“Well, that was the worst pizza in the world,” Julian said drowsily, his head leaning onto Kenyon’s shoulder. It kinda had been. But also the best, too. “But the best, too.” Kenyon started, surprised at the words coming out of Julian’s mouth and how they’d echoed his own thoughts almost exactly. “Yeah?” he asked hopefully. “And,” Julian said, blinking sleepily at Kenyon, “I think you’re kind of a treasure too.”
“Well, this I can promise you. I love you, and I will tell you every single damn day going forward.”
