Busyness functions like an addiction. When you stop, you have to face your thoughts, which terrifies most of us. So to cope you have to keep up the busyness.
Legalism is the belief that the world hangs on what I do and that God and people love me based on how I perform.
Audrey Boatman liked this
I’m reminded that work is not for me but for someone else,
what I can’t escape is the desire to escape.
No one can sleep while believing that she needs to keep the world spinning. But real rest comes when we thank God that we don’t need to, because he does.
Just because prayers are repetitive doesn’t mean they’re meaningless.
The pattern, not the anomaly, is the key.
It can fracture our presence across time and space until nothing is left.
Since humans first walked east of Eden, away from the presence of God, God has spent the rest of the story tracking his people down.
We all seem to have a capacity to make ourselves appear okay while hiding something that slowly kills us from the inside out.
Vulnerability and time turn people who have a relationship into people who have a friendship. That’s what friendship is: vulnerability across time. The practice of conversation is the basis of friendship because it’s in conversation that we become exposed to each other.
What is a friend except someone who knows how broken we are yet sticks around to love us anyway?
It isn’t on the mountains of triumph and victory but in the valleys of sorrow and loss that he waits for us.
