People said that the passage of time made grief easier to bear, but the wanderer had not found that to be true. Instead, he had found only that if that grief did become easier to bear, it was only because a man proved to himself, day after day, that he could bear it, and that simply by existing. Each day that he went on uncrushed by that mountain of grief was another proof that he could go on.
