"You know Lincoln needs you, right?" Morgan murmured. I shook my head and rested my chin on the top of my knees. "He doesn’t." If he did, he'd get over it. Because no one needed anyone who couldn’t contribute. What would he ever need me for? "I can't do anything. I'm a kid." "You can take care of him."

"Who wouldn’t want a light to guide you home when you're lost?" he'd murmured with his kind grin. "If nothing else, it beats having wilted flowers on your grave."

"How can a girl at the bottom of the ocean save a man who just landed in the water?"

I shook my head quickly and refocused on the road. The hotel was only a few minutes away now. I'd see her soon. I wanted her smile, her invisible piano tinkering, and her nose scrunch. I'm just gonna say goodbye.

"Yeah, I know. I'm gonna marry Mad, anyway," he replied flippantly, and my eyebrows rose. "There won't be a mom in my family, other than you." I had to grin. Marrying Madigan… I laughed softly under my breath. Of course he wouldn’t, but I had no doubt his family one day would be extraordinary.
