I think I’d gladly sit at this altar, watching him worship, for the rest of my life, if only to get to experience a glimpse of his perfection.
“You are a beacon of light, Little Echo. You shine in any room. I would never be able to not notice.”
“I don’t want nice. Not when it’s just a mask worn to hide their true intentions.” I smirk, feeling somewhat placated. My arms slide around her waist, tugging her close as my cock stirs to life. “Ah, but you love masks.” Her eyes twinkle. “I love yours.”
“You know, I could have you reported for abuse of power.” I try to smother my smirk, but it doesn’t particularly work. At her side, Mayor Wolfe chuckles, tugging on her hair. “M’eudail, need I remind you how we began?” “That’s different,” she says, shrugging him off.
The world could surrender to flames all around us, and the only thing I’d give a shit about was that she was with me, and I, her. That way, when our souls inevitably exited this planet, I wouldn’t have to search for hers. We’d go together.
“Isn’t there a way for you to just… I don’t know… tap into a grid system and find the guy?” Kal turns his head toward me, dark eyes unimpressed. “You use the same security company I do. Why don’t you call and ask how easy it is to track down a missing person?”
“Are you interested in my Violet?” We turn to find Amelia leaning over her armrest, blue eyes fixated on me. “She’s not a car I’m looking at buying, so, no, I wouldn’t say I’m interested.” I check my phone again, my chest deflating when my messages still haven’t been sent, sending anxiety spiraling through my veins. “I am, however, your future son-in-law.”
“There’s nothing she could do that would make me stop loving her. It’s … instinctual. My soul is bound to hers.” Even if she doesn’t exactly know it. “I’d be content to just exist in her orbit.”
“If she’s dead, burn the mansion down with me in it. I am not interested in a life without the sun.”
Forgiveness might be a gift, but not everyone deserves it. Ultimately, the gift is to yourself—and that isn’t one you have to give out if you don’t want to.
Forgiveness is for me. Being with him, choosing to no longer deny that parts of my soul enjoy the darkness, is the kindest gift I can grant the both of us. After all, daylight can’t exist without the night.
“You’re really bad at stalking, you know that, right?” A smirk tugs at the corner of my lips, brought to life by the mere sound of her voice. Violet glances over one shoulder, her brown eyes warm and playful. “Well, as it happens,” I say, adjusting the lapels of my suit jacket, “I’ve never claimed that to be my area of expertise.” “No, that’d be mine.” Deep laughter comes from my right, and I turn to see Aiden casually strolling toward us with the pink-haired Riley on his arm.
I wonder if every person in this odd little group came to find love in less-than-conventional ways. Perhaps that’s the glue that keeps them all together, aside from the convoluted web of blood relations. I’ve still not been able to fully piece it together.
rare it is to find someone who accepts every single piece of you, the dark bits just as much as the light.
