“There’s darkness all around you, pitch-black like hell itself, and no matter how hard I try to protect you from it, some of it will inevitably touch you because you are part of this family. But I swear I’ll make sure no other darkness comes close to touching you.”
Nevio rested his chin on top of my head. “Why do you save these deranged creatures?” “For the same reason she bothers with us,” Massimo said as he held out his cigarette to me but I shook my head. “One of these days we’ll lure you to the dark side,” he said with a shrug. Alessio put his head down on my shins. “You overestimate our powers.”
“Don’t listen to these assholes. Stay where you are. You belong in the light.” My fingers slid over my tutu. “I belong with the people I love. I don’t fear the dark.”
Nevio loved to see the world burn but so far he’d always made sure the flames didn’t touch me.
“There are no secrets in this house. You might as well pop the question right here and spare us the less accurate retellings later,”
“I really want to cling to my dislike of Amo. But sometimes when I see him looking at you with that sappy adoration I can’t help but tolerate him.”
Nevio needed an exorcist at the very least.
