The other one has his head ducked towards the door, eyes alight and molten, with a grin tugging at his lips. My heart shivers with pleasure as I rush towards the library. Tate Coleson just smiled at me.
Tate Coleson is one of those rare people who have incredibly beautiful eyelashes, and his irises sparkle like sugar crystals. When I look into them I feel like I’m falling inside of a kaleidoscope.
“I only want to listen if I’m with you,” he says quietly, hands gripping his knees. Then he looks up my body until his eyes finally meet mine. “Only with you.”
“Are you going to let me spoil you, River?”
“Hey beautiful,”
“They’re not allowed to make fun of you. No one’s going to say anything to you about this because, if they do, they’ll have to deal with me.” He flashes me a cocky boyish smile. “You’re mine.”
you’re also-” He fishes out the chain from under his shirt and holds the cross pendant up to me. “-the answer to all of my prayers.”
“Well, you are the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Tate is my penitent, and he’s ready to confess.
I want to wait for you. I don’t care how long that is.
It has always been like this, this abnormal connection that sometimes doesn’t even come once in a person’s lifetime. My pain is his pain. He’s hurting because I’m hurting.
I have been blessed to know Tate Coleson but my time is now up. Nothing this good ever comes without a price, and God knows that I have had my fair share of pain to balance against his goodness.
I’ve read stories about people dying from broken hearts, old couples leaving the world only days apart, because it’s like their body knows – it knows that the best part is over now and there is no longer any reason to stay. And that’s how it feels. Leaving Tate feels like the best part is over... and there is no longer any reason to stay.
I still want Tate. Part of me doesn’t care that I would have to endure Hudson for the rest of my life. I just want Tate.
“I’ve wanted you for my entire life. I’ve been in love with you for my entire life. Can’t you see this? Can’t you see what we have? We won’t ever find this with another person – I know that I won’t. It’s only going to ever be like this with you, River.” I bite down hard on my lip as he presses his forehead to mine, and a lone tear runs down his cheek. “Only with you.”
This isn’t what we put on our suggested playlist. But I know this song all too well.
I had to come and get my girl.”
His eyes glitter against the setting blaze of the sun and they are the most beautiful colour that I have ever seen. Molten. Sparkling. Mine.
“I’ve loved you forever baby, and I have no intentions of stopping. You made me a better man than I ever thought I could be, and I want to live the rest of my life with you. Only with you. So please will you do me the honour of being my lawfully wedded wife?”
