Tate Coleson just smiled at me.
“See you tomorrow, River.”
“What are the little tabs for?”
I think that he might have just added ten years to my life.
“Tate cannot see you like this,” Mitch says. “In fact, Tate cannot see other people seeing you like this. He’s going to go insane.”
It only takes five seconds and then he’s on the floor.
wrapped up with a little ribbon, there is a tiny perfect wooden bookcase.
six foot tall.
“Only with you.”
I’m going to start planning things. I want to spoil you.” Then he looks up at me with a playful smile. “Are you going to let me spoil you, River?”
“Oh yeah?”
“Such a gentleman,”
“Only with you.”
“Hey beautiful,”
“You shouldn’t be over here.”
“I had to come and check on my favourite girl,”
“They’re not allowed to make fun of you. No one’s going to say anything to you about this because, if they do, they’ll have to deal with me.” He flashes me a cocky boyish smile. “You’re mine.”
I clutch at my tie and try to loosen it so that I don’t faint in front of him in the cafeteria. Understanding what I’m doing, Tate hooks two fingers under the knot of my tie and he gently pulls it forward, easing the fabric from around my neck.
On top of the small grey lid is a red velvet cupcake, topped off with a little heart.
“Well, you are the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“Can I kiss you, please?”
“Please say it, River,” he begs quietly,
“Okay,” I say. “Yes Tate, you can.” He smiles against my lips. “Thank you,” he says. And then he kisses me.
“What tattoo are you going to get?” I ask, my voice trembling only a little. “Your name, across my knuckles,” he replies immediately.
I think that I might love more than just the CDs, Tate.
“Why do you keep saying that I ruined everything for us? How can you say that? I would have done anything for you.”
I’m sorry, stay with me baby.”
Tate doesn’t let go of my hand for the entire ride home.
“You came down here to punish me?”
“Hey baby,” he whispers and I drop my head, overcome with embarrassment, amazement, and pure, pure love.
I want to wait for you. I don’t care how long that is. I want it to be with you, and only with you, okay?”
I promise I’m gonna come back for you.”
I can’t help but feel lucky that this perfect boy is willing to fight anything to keep me in his life.
“I don’t want to lose you. Ever. Please will you…” He takes a deep breath. “Please say that you’ll be my girlfriend.”
“And I won’t.”
“Unless you want me to.”
“As soon as they’re gone, I’m yours,”
I’m yours. He really said that. I. Am. Yours.
“Hey quarterback,” I tease and he gives me a cocky flash of perfect white teeth. “Hey wife,” he says, and he presses a firm kiss into my neck.
It’s almost Christmas baby,”
On his right sits a small bouquet of roses.
“Can I?” he asks gruffly, eyes on my lips. Drunk on deviousness I taunt back, “Can you?” And then he shows me that yes he can.
“Need my girl tonight.”
“We can’t eat here, because if we’re here we won’t be eating.”
“Well, you won’t be eating,” he adds quietly.
“Get behind me, Backpack,”
He’s kissing me without kissing me.
Every single time I take a drink, he immediately takes one afterwards,
Extra, extra, extra large’,”
