Snap – Rosa Linn
Tate. Coleson. The best friend that I ever had. Who then became the worst friend that I ever had.
The other one has his head ducked towards the door, eyes alight and molten, with a grin tugging at his lips. My heart shivers with pleasure as I rush towards the library. Tate Coleson just smiled at me.
Tate Coleson is a chocolate caramel sundae injected straight into my bloodstream.
There’s a CD in the player and I recognise it immediately. This is my CD.
“I don’t want to go to college,” I say. “I want to live on a farm.”
“I hate public attention almost as much as you do. I want to live in the shadows like a vampire.”
Tate pulls the hair tie off my wrist and pushes my curls back from my face, holding them gently in his fist before securing them with the band.
“I am not taking a single thing from you,” I say in as steady a voice as I can manage. He folds his arms and the tattoo on his bicep bulges. “Tell me whose bed you’re sleeping in again?”
“Tate cannot see you like this,” Mitch says. “In fact, Tate cannot see other people seeing you like this. He’s going to go insane.”
wrapped up with a little ribbon, there is a tiny perfect wooden bookcase.
He’s hurting because I am hurting.
“I only want to listen if I’m with you,” he says quietly, hands gripping his knees. Then he looks up my body until his eyes finally meet mine. “Only with you.”
I want to spoil you.” Then he looks up at me with a playful smile. “Are you going to let me spoil you, River?”
It’s not my fault that Tate can’t control his rabid hormones.
“I had to come and check on my favourite girl,”
“You’re mine.”
On top of the small grey lid is a red velvet cupcake, topped off with a little heart.
Surely happiness can’t be this simple to achieve.
“Why do you keep saying that I ruined everything for us? How can you say that? I would have done anything for you.”
My body traitorously melts a little, so I really hope that he isn’t a serial killer.

“What’s with the tummy thing?”
“Uh…” he rubs one of his hands across the back of his neck, as if he’s embarrassed or nervous and not sure if he should tell me. “I just… because it’s where…” He breathes out a shaky exhale and shifts a bit, dropping his hand down again. “Not right now, of course, ’cause we’re both young and all but… when we’re older…”
