Only in humans is sex a choice and a pleasure-seeking activity that need not culminate in procreation. Shiva is immortal, so does not need to procreate. Shiva is in a state of eternal bliss and so does not seek pleasure-seeking activities. He needs nothing and wants nothing. He is therefore autonomous, independent of nature.
