Lindsey’s The 1980s, where he listed “four reasons” why “the U.S. has been preserved as a free country.”16 They included (1) the large number of Christians among its citizenry, (2) their constant prayers for the nation, (3) American philanthropy for global missions, and (4) US support for Jews and Israel. Falwell simplified the reasons to two: “God has raised up America in these last days for the cause of world evangelization and the protection of his people, the Jews. I don’t think America has any other right or reason for existence other than those two purposes.”17
