When grief is really bad, it’s a reflection of a love that was really great.
Pain is not permanent. Pain is not pointless.
I was trying to help myself out of a place I couldn’t escape on my own.
It drove me to a darker place than I’d ever known was possible.
Learning to live after loss is not a simple or straightforward process, but I’m here to help you discover that it is possible.
As high as my trunk is tall, that’s as deep as my roots are buried.
Shed your dead leaves. Don’t hang on to a single one. Drop the burden. New leaves will then have space to grow when the season changes, freeing you of the weight while at the same time preserving the future of your forest.
Sometimes the choices that matter are very uncomfortable.
Back then, I had no idea just how hard my path out of the flames would be.
full day was too much to handle. Honestly, a full hour was too much to handle, so I lived minute to minute.
And until we finally connect with the Source of the river, everything done downstream is useless and therefore powerless to make a difference.
a guilty man can’t forgive himself when at his core he still believes he’s guilty.
This was spiritual warfare.
If this enemy was so impenetrable, so invisible, so damaging to me, how much more infinitely powerful was the One I had called on to save me? That was beyond my ability to understand.
It took dying to who I was and what I had become at the rock bottom of that river to realize that nothing in my own power could change the course of my stream.
My eyes were slowly opening.
I actually have no control over the waves in the river at all. Pretending that we do, and fighting against the pressure, leads to so much fatigue that we don’t even have enough energy to breathe at the crest.
It was all His grace, which can be defined as unmerited favor.
I had known of God before, but now I understood something far greater than that: He knew me.
“Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it?” (Lamentations 3:37)
“The LORD has made everything for its purpose.” (Proverbs 16:4)
Oh God, we desperately want You to heal this child. You are a miracle worker, and You absolutely have the power. But give this family the strength and peace to rest in Your will, not ours. We trust whatever Your plan is today. And we will rejoice, even through our deepest sorrow, knowing that Your purpose is far greater than ours. Sometimes sickness is for healing, and other times it’s for homecoming. We beg for healing today. But if You don’t heal this boy on earth, heal the hearts of this family.
When we try to keep living on our own, we won’t have the strength to persevere through hardship.
I’m just one beggar telling another beggar where I found bread.
I’ve often wondered why He didn’t just give us bread that would last a lifetime. I’ve come to realize that we need to be renewed day by day.
In fact, nothing matters at all until we finally realize that all things are temporary on this earth.
If His gifts are so good, and it hurts so much to miss them, what would it be like to meet the Giver of these gifts? I can’t even imagine.
The tears of joy come through the pain of suffering.
There is such healing in letting go.
But know this: loss is our teacher. Loss reminds us that nothing here is permanent.
“What, God? What are You trying to show me through this trial?”
Most books we read to understand something, but the more we read the Bible, the more we realize that it understands us.
Whether we realize it or not, there is a war, a spiritual battle raging all around us.
Generally, self-help teaches that the problem is outside us and the solution comes from within. The Bible teaches that the problem comes from within and the solution is outside us.
Life in this world is a vapor, so fleeting and so short.
He speaks His truth through His ever-living Word, the Bible, and when we’re familiar with that Word, we can know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God does desire peace for those who love Him.
There are no remnants of depression because my God-gifted joy is just too abundant.
Other than that, my future is none of my business. What a freeing feeling that is.
Hear it. It in itself contains the power of God to save your life like
He soon experienced significant healing when he began reading the Bible daily. What would this kind of routine look like in your life?
