Even if I have autism, I know that autism isn’t ME. It’s something I have, or a journey where I stand somewhere on the spectrum of different experiences and behaviors. But there’s still the fear that I’ll find out, tell people, and they’ll have this weird sense of relief. Like, “Oh, that explains why you’re so weird.” As though I was a mystery to be solved, a map without the map key.
