“Olivia?” Asher’s voice is muffled by his pillows and sheets. “Yeah?” “I think I’m in love with you.”
“Everything’s wonderful,” Bree says. “We were just talking about relationships in the office. Asher, what’s your stance on sleeping with interns? What about interns sleeping with clients?” “Don’t bring them into this,” Emanuel says. “So it’s just okay for me to get slandered?” “What exactly has Olivia done to you? Except pick up your slack?”
Bree laughs. “Precious Olivia can do no wrong. The office sweetheart. Asher’s plaything. A notch in Levi Booker’s bedpost. Tell me, Liv, have you signed that NDA yet?”
There’s no excuse for her to talk this way about Olivia. I’m sure they’ll make up by the end of the book but they shouldn’t. Bree is selfish and rude and has been a terrible friend since the beginning. No matter what she is going through she has no right to act like this towards her friend
“I have a big day tomorrow,” I tell her. “We’re setting up for a gala at the museum.” “Is that like a ball? The ones princesses go to?” “Sort of,” I laugh. “Are you going to wear a pretty dress?” “I plan to.” Chloe looks up at Asher. “Will you take a picture of her so I can see?”
“Did you offer Bree a job?” “No, I didn’t.” “She did good work.” “She did.” “Then why not hire her?” Ana takes a deep breath. “Because there comes a point when you have to put a person before a business. And as a mother, I couldn’t put Bree in the line of fire when I know she has deep-rooted self-worth issues that she needs to address.” “River took advantage of her.” I frown. “There have been a lot of Rivers in Bree’s life,” Ana says. “But she’s taking a timeout for a while, which I think will be good for her. And once she’s ready, I told her she’ll have a place at WLS.”
