I had been cheated out of my birthright, but I would not let them steal the power threaded through my blood.
A reminder of another lifetime, two years ago, when the stars shone brighter. A reminder to hope for the day that they may again.
“I love you,” I whispered as I left him. “Until the stars stop shining,” he responded.
The dancing string within my own blood was mated with its match, the two spiraling together, a pair promised for eternity.
“My North Star,” Augustus whispered, bending to brush his lips over the freshly inked spot on my arm and sending shivers down my spine. “So that we may always come back to each other.”
He may no longer see a future for me as a warrior, but I could see nothing else. “I was not made for skirts, Father. I was made for swords.”
The Spirits may grow greedy should a blessed soul cross their path, choosing to claim it as their own, harboring it as a true life among the dead in their realm.
“For every day my heart beats, I’m yours. My heart, my soul—it’s all yours.” “I’m yours,” I repeated. His lips brushed mine. “I will love you until the stars stop shining.”

“Something is coming, Malakai. A promise-breaking threat I did not anticipate. But I
Though I hated myself for it, I would do it again. Because what I did, I did for her. I would do anything for her. She may never know it, but it was all for her.
“You carry a piece of my heart. Whatever happens in there, that will always be yours.”
“Thy sight is gone, oh, Chosen Child. But the difficulty shall be mild. To walk through life without the sense requires a skill just as dense. It is neither physical thing nor human being, but imperative instinct riling. You have not had it all the way, but it grows stronger in your bones each day.”
“That ghost of an affliction may be gone, but your curse runs deeper, Ophelia.”
