“Has Agnar gotten you well trained, thrall?” Marcus looked him in the eye. “No.”

“You will not leave. I am not done speaking to you.” Marcus stopped, but did not turn towards him. “Whip me if you wish. Sell me. I no longer care.”

I do not expect your forgiveness for what I have done. I know that I have shown myself to be unworthy of you.” He paused, his throat bobbing with a hard swallow. “But if you do choose to stay, I will spend the rest of my life trying to be.”
