second read: looking back on The Book of Brennan, it was such a great plot tool in this book. It gave us a feel for who Brennan was by how it was written, and the sheer fact that he even thought to write it to help his sisters. It's setting you up to love his character before you even know he's still alive which I think was just a genius move. It makes the ending reveal hit so much harder than just pulling the random dead brother we never actually met, back from the dead.
