I hate the look on Ethan’s face as he stares at the rain falling down from the sky. My best friend is absolutely gorgeous in every sense of the word. He’s tall and muscled with wavy brown hair and beautiful golden eyes. But they’re so damn sad now.

I can’t lose my best friend, but part of me is afraid I already have. On that one, rainy day two years ago. Fuck the rain.

She places a hand on my shoulder, looking concerned. “He’ll come back to you, Knox. Give him more time.”

“Are you sure you want this?” God, how could he ever question that? “Yes,” I say pointedly. “I want this so badly I can barely breathe.”

He’s always been mine in a way, but now he’s really mine. I just have to find a way to keep it like this. To not fuck it all up.

I love this man. This beautiful man who feels a little wrecked but is definitely not ruined. Not even close.
